How to Wear Sleepwear as Streetwear in a Chic Way this season
A few tips on how to wear sleepwear as streetwear in a chic way without looking like you just got out of bed
Is it actually possible to jump out of bed and get ready in just a few minutes with the exact same outfit you slept in? Well, in my world, it really is! I started wearing sleepwear as a night outfit back in the days in London. You are probably wondering how did I come up with this idea. How could sleepwear be the perfect outfit for a night out? Well, London is known to be very expensive in general and, unfortunately, everything I loved was out of my league. However, I would usually find amazing pieces in the nightwear section for so cheap. I realised how a cute silky top could be very chic and elegant with the right accessories. Often, I would add a cashmere cardigan over my slip dresses to give richness to the whole look.
Wearing sleepwear slowly became my signature look
So the question is, how to wear sleepwear as streetwear in a chic way? In this article, I will give you a few tips to make sure you master the art of wearing streetwear as sleepwear! Let’s get started ladies!
Your bag selection is more important than you think!
Choosing the right bag when wearing sleepwear outside of your house is very important. I think the key is to have fun and to choose a unique and fun option! For this look, I went with a gorgeous red velvet Valentino belt bag. The studs on this beautiful item really added a little extra to my outfit. Belt bags are an amazing option if you hate carrying things around and want your hands completely free. To be honest, it took me a little bit of time before getting to the idea of a belt bag, but I am now a fan!
Choose the right pair of shoes, one that goes with your bag option
My mom used to tell me all the time: your shoes and bag selection need to match. I disagreed with this for so long and still do BUT sometimes, it really is important. Since my pyjama has already a printed pattern on it, toning it down with a matching set (accessories and shoes) will bring the perfect balance. Personally, accessories are something I can invest my money in without a problem. Firstly because I keep my designer items for a VERY long time and treat them with a lot of respect. Investing in designer items is always good since they truly make a difference to an outfit. Since the weather is colder these days, velvet seemed like the perfect material for this look. My Chiara Ferragni “café croissant” velvet loafers couldn’t be more perfect for this look.
Do not forget the coat, the bigger the better!
Big oversized faux fur jackets are my go to option when I want to look extra. Honestly, the right coat can make your outfit SO much better! When wearing sleepwear as streetwear, your coat selection will also be very important. If you skip that important detail, you might ruin it and actually look like you just got out of bed and not in the right way. I went with my favourite faux fur jacket from H&M. I actually got this coat last year in a gorgeous brown and finally found the same one this year in black.
If you want to master the art of sleepwear as streetwear, choose the right fabric
Is it possible to wear any kind of pyjamas outside? My honest answer is simply no. First of all, the fabric plays a huge role in that final decision. Of course you don’t have to go with a 100% silk but you do have to be careful when choosing your pyjama. Personally, I often wear my own designs since we made them in the most luxurious 19 momme silk fabric. However, these type of pyjamas require a lot of budget and sometimes we can’t or don’t want to spend that kind of money. When I feel like wearing a cute, stylish, affordable pyjama, Oysho is ALWAYS my number one option. Since Oysho is not available in Canada, I try to order them when people go to Europe, which luckily, is quite often. The brand recently came up with a beautiful silky polyester polka dot pyjama, perfect if you’re on a budget.
One last touch, gold earrings to make this outfit a little more sophisticated
I would never spend nor take the time to choose a pair of earrings. Personally, I’ve always felt like they didn’t change a thing to an outfit and I was so wrong. The right pair of earrings can actually make your whole outfit if you go with basic pieces. When wearing a pyjama as a streetwear statement, adding gold touches can really help you. It helps you with the whole “this is me in my pjs and I’m still looking expensive” motto. You might have noticed that I’ve been wearing the same earrings for a little while now. Well, I would be lying if I told you it was time for me to find a new pair of earrings. Absolutely not! My Maslo Jewelry are literally my favourite accessories at the moment and I can’t live without them!
Fix your hair without going overboard
When wearing your pyjama as a streetwear outfit, your hairstyle choice will be very important. One thing we don’t want to do is do too much. Why? For me, having a complicated, too sophisticated hairstyle can literally ruin the balance of your outfit. Instead of doing something crazy, go with something very simple BUT very clean. My everyday look is wavy hairstyle that I create with a curling iron. Also, do not go out of the house with messy hair, you need to do a little something!
