Saint Ambroeus, My Favourite Italian Restaurant in New York and favourite Gossip Girl’s destination

After watching Gossip Girl on repeat for years, I’ve started to notice every detail. The famous orange coffee cups Blair Waldorf was always carrying came from this famous Italian restaurant. Saint Ambroeus, My Favourite Italian Restaurant in New York, became part of my New York city guide.

XOXO Gossip Girl

Did I ever mention my obsession with Gossip Girl and Blair Waldorf? The show ended more than 5 years ago and you have no idea how my heart was left in a million pieces on the last episode. Even though Chuck and Blair ended up together, an era was over.

Gossip Girl changed US, yes us, because we are A LOT of people to think that. It made us understand (for most of us) that tights are not pants, that headbands were for the it girls and, finally, that NO ONE should sit higher than you on the MET steps. Gossip Girls gave us some guidelines about fashion but also about New York City.

The famous coffee cups Blair Waldorf was ALWAYS holding

Do you remember these famous coral coffee cups the cast used to hold on the MET steps? Blair Waldorf and her minions were always sipping on that same cup of coffee before throwing yogurts at the non so cool kids. For some reason, I had a hard time finding out about these cups and actually wondered if they were from a real place in New York. Well, they were real and in fact, from a very famous Italian restaurant. Sant Ambroeus, where Italy meets New York in the most elegant way. The decor is divine, trendy and very modern Italian if you ask me. Sant Ambroeus has 3 restaurants in NYC. The one on the Upper East Side located on Madison Avenue requires a 3 minutes walk to the MET steps. The second location is in the West Village and the third one in Soho, where I shot these pictures.

Temps d’un Café meets Sant Ambroeus for the first time

My first time at Sant Ambroeus was only a few months ago. I obviously went to Madison Avenue because let’s face it, my goal was to get that coffee cup and head to the MET steps. I ordered Cacio e Pepe for lunch which is one of my favourite pasta plate. Since I love this plate so much, I can be quite picky and very hard to please but Sant Ambroeus did not disappoint me. The plate was filling and every bite was basically heaven. To end this perfect lunch, I asked for my regular oat milk cappuccino TO GO. You have no idea how happy I was to finally get MY own coffee cup to go from this place. Next thing you know, I asked my friend for a shoot on the MET steps and kept on saying that no one should sit above me.

A piece of Italy in New York City

As soon as you step foot in Sant Ambroeus, you smell and feel like Italy. It was Tuesday morning and went for 11 so the place wasn’t too busy YET. The waiter gave me a beautiful coral breakfast menu and took my coffee order. I didn’t know what to order so I asked the waiter for some help. We both agreed on the Sant Ambroeus french toast with a side of mixed berries. Most of you know that I am Canadian and drink/eat maple syrup every single day of my life. As a proud Canadian, giving me fake maple syrup is probably my worst nightmare. Well, Sant Ambroeus, I will admit that you’re maple syrup was DELICIOUS and beautiful to look at.

Sant Ambroeus french toast and their 3 delicious toppings

I love french toast but not all places actually know how to make them. They sometimes lack of flavours or the ingredients are not fresh. I’ve had many in my life and Saint Ambroeus serves one of the best ones. First of all, the plate itself was so pretty to look at and well presented. They also give you 3 vintage looking spoons with 3 different toppings. Mines were pistachio, almond and chocolate but these can vary regularly. The toasts tasted amazing and were very well-balanced in terms of sweetness which is quite important. My cappuccino was exactly how I liked it, strong, creamy but not bitter.

Everything to go please

I never throw food mainly because I always finish my plate. It might have been the excitement of feeling like Blair Waldorf but more than half of my plate was untouched.  They were so nice (and clearly noticed my obsession) that they gave me 2 bags with different designs and a coffee cup to go. I ended up having the rest of this delicious breakfast in my hotel room while watching, well you already know, Gossip Girl.

xoxo You know you love me

In the meantime, if you’re not in NYC and craving french toasts, you can make my delicious Raspberry Rose French Toast.
