Manoir Hovey, a Luxury Weekend Getaway near Montreal
A luxurious hotel full of history
Manoir Hovey is not just a beautiful hotel with amazing food. In fact, if we go back a few years, this breathtaking place belonged to Henry Atkinson in 1900. Henry Atkinson was the owner of Georgia Power in Atlanta and built this summer house for himself. In 1950, the property was sold to Mr. Robert Brown who named it “The Birches” and became, for the first time, an inn. But in 1979, the Stafford family made an offer and purchased The Birches to finally rename it Manoir Hovey. Of course, with time, some changes were made to the property as you would expect. However, many things stayed the same like Mr. Atkinson book collection.
A luxury getaway less than 2 hours from Montreal
I’ve always noticed how my mood decreases after more than 2 months in Montreal. To be honest, I always feel the need to travel and to, well, escape. However, I can’t always book a ticket to the other side of the world. Indeed, sometimes, I have no choice to stay in Montreal for work or other reasons. This year, instead of doing nothing and complaining about the weather, we decided to find the perfect weekend getaway near Montreal. Somewhere unique and beautiful, perfect for winter, and of course, for Valentine’s Day. After hours of research, we found the most beautiful getaway hotel less than 2 hours from Montreal.
My favourite item to pack on a luxury weekend getaway
Personally, I love going on a luxury weekend getaway for one specific reason: fashion. Since we usually stay at the hotel the whole weekend, I tend to change outfit 2-3 times a day. You can have fun with your outfits or just stay in your pyjama all day. Nevertheless, wearing a pyjama doesn’t mean that it can’t be elegant and beautiful. I packed a gorgeous pink pyjama crafted in the most luxurious silk from my own brand Milord Chérie. I would be having breakfast in my fancy nightwear wearing the hotel slippers like a real princess.

A luxury getaway in the countryside
After a very easy drive, we finally arrived to Manoir Hovey. The property reminded me of my time in London when I was going on road trips to the countryside. They all welcomed us so well and we felt at home the minute we arrived. Manoir Hovey is not a huge property like you would expect from a big hotel chain. Instead, you experience something unique, luxurious and a lot more personal. The staff was always making sure we were enjoying ourselves. They would bring us hot chocolates and checking if the fireplace was still keeping us warm. Little details like these make all the difference.
Our beautiful suite, a small cottage overlooking Massawippi lake
I didn’t know what our room looked like but I was expecting something beautiful, simple and not too big. However, when they showed us our room, we quickly realised that it wasn’t in the hotel main building. Instead, Manoir Hovey gave us a suite, or more like a small cottage with a view on Massawippi lake. Our room had it’s own balcony with a hot tub and the prettiest bathroom. The room was GORGEOUS with a lot of space, big windows everywhere and the most important, a Nespresso machine.
An 8 course-meal at Le Hatley by Chef Alexandre Vachon
Food has always been something I truly enjoyed. I grew up with a mother who wanted to make everything herself in her kitchen. Therefore, real food with real ingredients is very important to me and truly makes a difference. Chef Alexandre Vachon orchestrated this luxurious dinner in the most impeccable way. From the amazing staff to the little details on every singe plate, this dinner was something we will definitely remember. We had the opportunity to try different unique, interesting and one a kind tastes. If you do pay a visit to Le Hatley, I highly suggest the discovery menu to have an unforgettable night.
My favourite moment, breakfast
I do love a nice dinner, but nothing can compare to a delicious breakfast. For some reason, I’ve always judged a hotel after seeing its breakfast. Once again, Manoir Hovey did not dissapoint us. We chose our main plate on the menu and completed our breakfast with their beautiful buffet. On the first day, I chose the smoked salmon eggs benedict and the next day, added fresh black truffle on them. DIVINE. The buffet had a selection of cheeses, fresh pastries, fruits, granola, juices and more. As usual, the staff was excellent and paid attention to every little detail.
After a relaxing luxury weekend getaway, time to go back Montreal
You might already know this, but we didn’t want to leave Manoir Hovey. We had the most amazing time and actually took time to relax and enjoy ourselves. I still have a few pictures to share (with more food), but I will leave it for my next blog post. Going back to my experience, I highly suggest Manoir Hovey to anyone who needs to escape and recharge their batteries. We will. of course, come back and probably make this our little ritual.
Happy V Day everyone xo
