Swedish brand Vélosophy just launched the recycled Nespresso pods bicycle

In the last few months, we have heard quite a lot about Nespresso and its many ways to be more eco-friendly. It’s not a secret that Nestlé Nespresso is one of the biggest, or maybe THE biggest coffee company in the world. On the bright side, having that much power can actually be quite beneficial for many reasons. Reason number one: you truly can influence people around you!

Nespresso recycling program that can make a difference

If you have a Nespresso machine, you might know about the bag they give you to recycle your coffee pods. The bag colour varies, depending on where you are in the world, but the concept stays the same. Everytime you are done with your coffee pods, you simply have to throw them in this bag. Simple, right? Yes, quite simple, but many people don’t even do that extra effort. So what Nespresso does with your coffee pods after you enjoyed that delicious cup of coffee? They used it in many different ways like making a recycled pen, peeler or even a BICYCLE!

After drinking 300 espressos, RE:CYCLE stylish urban bicycle will come to life

Nespresso coffee pods are made from a very important material: aluminium. Aluminium is 100 percent recyclable and retains its properties indefinitely. Therefore, this material has a lot of value to the eyes of Nespresso and for a good reason!

However, the challenge was very interesting since aluminium is also a light material. Jimmy Östholm, a former IKEA communications manager, accepted the challenge. The final goal was to find a way to make aluminium into a rigid and resistent material to make a STRONG bicycle. Mixing 300 Nespresso coffee pods with new and strong materials was a great balance to make this dream possible.

If you are familiar with the Nespresso coffee pods family, you may have noticed that the bicycle colour was a wink to Nespresso’s popular Arpeggio. The capsule-shaped bell is also one of my favourite detail and feature on this beautiful bicycle.

Trying RE:CYCLE for the first time in Charlevoix

Nespresso invited me for a beautiful 2 nights getaway in Charlevoix. Since our stay was so beautiful, you can expect a full article on my experience in the next few days. After a yoga morning class with the prettiest view, Nespresso finally introduced us to the new Swedish bike. I’ve always been impressed with Nespresso’s aesthetic which is the reason why my expectation were very high. Once again, Nespresso delivered perfectly in every aspect and created, thanks to Vélosophy, a unique and amazing bicycle. RE:CYCLE is a great bicycle to ride with a very simple yet practical design.

What happens AFTER buying a RE:CYCLE bicycle

The RE:CYCLE model retails for 1290 Euros with only 1000 limited edition for sale. The higher price has been a discussion for many but making this bike does required an important budget. However, for each bike sold, Vélosophy will donate one to a schoolgirl in Africa to improve her access to education. Education is the key to many problems (not all of them) but this is an amazing start!

Where can I buy the Nespresso x Vélosophy bicycle

Simple, on Vélosophy’s website! What do you guys think of this new collaboration? Should Nespresso have more bicycles available instead of a limited edition one?

If you can’t afford a Nespresso bicycle at the moment, you could always try my Nespresso Vegan Vanilla Latte Affogato recipe which is A LOT cheaper!
